Continue reading »]]> Boca Paila Fishing Lodge offers some of the best flats fishing variety in the world and getting here couldn’t be easier.  Many cities offer direct flights to Cancun and the airfares are quite low right now.  The fishing this fall has been excellent and the weather here on Mexico’s Yucatan has provided very stable conditions.  In the saltwater flats world, good weather means good fishing, and hopefully this trend will continue into the winter and early-spring seasons.

Plentiful permit and bonefish comprise the bulk of the fishing opportunities during this time of the year; however, the occasional snook and tarpon are available to those that don’t mind challenging themselves a little bit by casting tight to the mangroves with small baitfish patterns.

Continue reading »]]> All is well at Boca Paila.  Hurricane Rina weakened, stayed offshore, and fizzled out in the Caribbean.  There’s no damage at the lodge and the fishing is in great shape.

Continue reading »]]> The flats are rested here at Boca Paila, so the fish are happy, ready and waiting for you.  We have seen plenty of permit poking around for crabs, tons of tarpon rolling on baitfish and the bonefish are everywhere as usual.

Continue reading »]]> We had a week of firsts with 3 guests landing their first permit on a fly and two others who scored their first grand slams. And a few big tarpon were landed (over 50 pounds) to round out a great fishing trip for the group.
Lots of singing and laughing every evening. We look forward to seeing this gang again next year!
